Rationale
The Connections, Love U2® and Art of Loving well programs are all based on valid and reliable research.
In addition, each has been evaluated and found to make statistically significant differences in various behavior of teens.
Family and Consumer Science teachers are trained in family life education.
Teens in high schools are easy to reach through on-site educators.
Teens are fascinated with their romantic lives and are drawn to programs on this topic.
See Dibble Institute Research Synopsis and website for research briefs
See The Dibble Institute website for program philosophies and goals and rationales. |
Barriers
Students in schools are focused on achieving academic standards and are not able to take elective classes.
Schools are eliminating FACS classes due to budget constraints.
OVERCOME:
In communities that make healthy marriages a priority, they can make youth relationship skills education a priority in their schools.
Develop out-of-school delivery methods to supplement schools (ie churches, clubs, camps, retreats, health care settings, teen centers, YMCA, YWCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, foster care, after school programs, juvenile justice, vocational clubs ) |
Domestic violence
The Developer of Connections, Love U 2 and The Art of Loving Well are either themselves experts in the field of domestic violence, or they consulted experts in the field as they developed the programs.
Each program deals with issues surrounding emotional and physical abuse as well as how to build healthy relationships.
See Treatment of Dating Abuse worksheet |
Voluntary
All FACS classes are electives, therefore voluntary for teens.
Participation through churches, clubs, camps and agencies would be voluntary as well. |
