- CBAE Grant - The Family and Youth Services Bureau is accepting applications to provide support to public and private entities for the development and implementation of the Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program. The purpose of these programs is to educate young people and create an environment within communities that supports teen decisions to postpone sexual activity until marriage. Acceptable applications will be designed to provide abstinence-until-marriage education as defined by Section 510(b)(2) of the Social Security Act, for adolescents aged 12 through 18. The anticipated number of awards is 80 to 90, with funding ranges between $250,000 and $600,000 depending upon the availability of funds and enactment of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 program appropriation.

- OAPP - The AFL Prevention Demonstration grants are for projects to develop, implement and evaluate a multi-site primary abstinence education program targeting youth ages 12-18, as compared with a multi-site "enriched" program model. An enriched program model, as defined in this announcement, is a primary abstinence education program integrated with one of three types of program models chosen by OAPP: Intensive parental/family involvement, mentoring, and community service. See section I-4 of the announcement for further details. OAPP is interested in learning if enriched abstinence models provide a stronger effect than a primary abstinence education program. Applications should propose a comparison of a primary abstinence education program to one of these three models. Primary abstinence education program is defined as 15-25 hours of abstinence education and supportive services and activities conducted within one year with the same participants.

Community Colleges: National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy - The National Campaign’s goal is to improve the lives and future prospects of children and families and, in particular, to help ensure that children are born into families committed to and ready for the demanding task of raising the next generation. Our specific strategy for reaching this goal is to prevent teen pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy, especially among single, young adults. We support a combination of responsible values and behavior by both men and women and responsible policies in both the public and private sectors. If we are successful in reducing both teen and unplanned pregnancy, child and family well-being will improve. There will be less poverty, more opportunities for young men and women to complete their education or achieve other life goals, fewer abortions, and a stronger nation.
