Love U2®: "Baby Smarts: Through the Eyes of a Child " Grades: 9-12 Baby Smarts: Through the Eyes of a Child is a unique approach to pregnancy prevention that places the child at center stage and builds a powerful understanding of how teen childbearing affects a child. Teens not only learn about the developmental needs of children in the first years of life, including the important findings from early brain development; they have a chance to learn how the quality, existence and stability of parent’s relationships affect children.
In 10 activity-based lessons, Baby Smarts presents a highly engaging course on what babies require in order to develop and thrive. Teens learn about nurturing and socializing, how early experiences shape the future, why fathers matter, the impact of parents’ relationships, the relevance of marriage, and more. Lessons also cover basic information such as myths and facts about getting pregnant and the emotional and material realities of unplanned pregnancy for a teen. The content of Baby Smarts synthesizes more than 30 years of social science research on the link between child outcomes and family structure, as well as the findings from early brain development research in teen-friendly language and mediums. This unit requires no special training. It is designed for use in schools, youth agencies, clubs and faith-based organizations.

Baby Smarts teaches about the importance of forming and maintaining healthy parental unions, the role of fathers, and thirty years of social science findings on family structure and child well-being. In this lively activity-based curriculum teens also learn about the promising new tools—pre-marital inventories and skills-based relationship and marriage education—that can help increase the odds of wiser mate selections and healthy unions.
