Becoming Sex Smart: Sample
Lesson - PDF
Teens today receive little balanced guidance about sex. Youth culture
embraces casual sex, while mature voices worry about the growing
chasm between sex and relationships. At school, sex education uses
a health/biology model that focuses on the physical aspects of sexual
activity.
“Becoming Sex
Smart” takes a broader view of the subject, without a religious
or ideological agenda. For the first time, it helps teens explore
the emotional and social dimensions of sexuality, not simply the
physical issues. Furthermore, teens learn the positive benefits
they can enjoy by postponing sexual activity.
Activities make teens aware of the discrete steps of physical involvement
and what each step means for their health and heart. Other topics
include gender differences, defining personal boundaries and skills
to maintain these limits. “Becoming Sex Smart” also
contains information on STDs presented in the
context of values and relationships.
This unit is designed to stand alone or complement sex ed in schools,
youth agencies, clubs and faith based organizations.
